Dedication to my Grandad...

You may wonder what the name of my business, Fair to Middlin', means and how I came  to choose it. Whether you're familiar with this old Southern saying or not, I'd like to share with each of you what it personally means to me.

 

I'm proud to share that I've named my business in honor of my Grandad, whose wisdom, work ethic, strength, and love for his family have always guided me.

 

I remember throughout my life asking him, "How're you doing, Grandad?" I can still hear his voice as he replied, "Oh, I'm fair to middlin'."

 

Little did I know then that this saying, "fair to middlin'," meant more than just doing all right, or so-so, or the quality of cotton. It was the perfect description of my Granddad and how he lived his life. Throughout my life, I have watched this man live a life of finding balance, doing well without boasting, being humble in his success and triumphs, and always staying grounded. It was his way of living that gives more meaning to this simple phrase; that things don't always have to be perfect. As long as you're moving forward and doing your best, that's enough.

 

This phrase has always stuck with me, and it perfectly captures the spirit I want to carry forward in my business. I wanted a name that could encapsulate my Southern roots as well as the special meaning it carries with me. I hope that every customer and partner we work with feels the same; that we're here to do the best we can, stay true to our roots, and approach every day with heart and humility.

 

So this one's for you, Grandad. Thank you for teaching me that fair to middlin' is sometimes just what we need.
